Key takeaway: HackerRank's Starter plan costs $79 per month billed annually ($948 a year for 60 candidate attempts), or $99 per month on monthly billing with 5 attempts a month, on its pricing page as read on 29 September 2026. Pro costs $419 per month billed annually ($5,028 a year for 360 attempts), or $529 per month with 30 attempts a month. Enterprise is custom-priced. Every extra attempt costs $20, so on an annual Starter plan each included attempt works out to $15.80 and on annual Pro to $13.97.

HackerRank sells technical hiring software for engineering roles: Screen (coding assessments), Interview (live pair-programming interviews) and Chakra, an AI interviewer it added to every plan. The pricing page headline is "Plans that help you hire for the agentic era", and all three products draw on one unit of usage: the candidate attempt.

Unlike many assessment vendors, HackerRank publishes both a monthly and an annual price for its two self-serve plans, the attempt allowance for each, and the overage fee. The page says annual billing saves 20%, and the arithmetic below confirms it: 20.2% on Starter and 20.8% on Pro.

Every figure below was read from HackerRank's rendered pricing page on 29 September 2026. Annual totals, per-attempt figures and the break-even point are our arithmetic on those published prices. How much does HackerRank cost in 2026?

Plan Billed annually Per month on annual Billed monthly Candidate attempts Users
Starter $948/year $79/month $99/month 60 per year, or 5 per month Unlimited
Pro $5,028/year $419/month $529/month 360 per year, or 30 per month Unlimited
Enterprise Custom pricing Custom Custom Custom Custom

On monthly billing a year of Starter costs $1,188 and a year of Pro $6,348, so the annual plans save $240 and $1,320 a year respectively. The allowances are the same size either way (5 a month is 60 a year, 30 a month is 360 a year), but the page adds that annual plans let you "use attempts when you need them", which matters for teams whose hiring comes in bursts.

Pro costs 5.3 times the price of Starter on annual billing ($5,028 against $948, a difference of $4,080 a year) and includes 6 times the attempts. It adds ATS integrations (Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby), calendar integrations (Gmail and Outlook), 4,000+ library questions instead of 2,000+, and a higher concurrent candidate capacity (up to 10,000 against 5,000).

What counts as a HackerRank attempt?

The pricing FAQ defines it: "Whenever a candidate completes an attempt through Screen, Interview, or Chakra, that counts against your attempt credit." One attempt is one candidate completing one assessment, live interview or AI interview, and all three products share the same allowance.

Overage is billed automatically. The FAQ says usage beyond the allowance "will be charged to your saved payment method at the end of your billing cycle or after you've accumulated 25 extra attempts, whichever comes first."

Extra attempts Starter Pro Enterprise
Additional attempts (overage) $20 each $20 each Volume pricing
Pre-purchased extra attempts Not available $15 each, annual plan only Not listed

Pre-buying on annual Pro costs 25% less per attempt than paying overage ($15 against $20). A batch of 25 overage attempts, the point at which HackerRank bills mid-cycle, costs $500.

How much does HackerRank cost per candidate?

Plan and billing Price per year Attempts per year Cost per included attempt
Starter, annual $948 60 $15.80
Starter, monthly $1,188 60 $19.80
Pro, annual $5,028 360 $13.97
Pro, monthly $6,348 360 $17.63
Any overage attempt $20.00

Because one attempt is one candidate completing one step, a candidate who takes a Screen test and then a live Interview uses two attempts. A pipeline that tests 10 candidates per engineering hire and brings 3 of them to a live coding interview uses 13 attempts per hire, which fits 4 hires into an annual Starter allowance and 27 into annual Pro.

When is HackerRank Pro cheaper than Starter?

On price alone, annual Starter plus $20 overages stays cheaper than annual Pro until a team needs about 264 attempts a year: $948 plus 204 extra attempts at $20 is $5,028, the price of Pro. A team using 100 attempts a year would pay $1,748 on Starter ($948 plus 40 overage attempts at $20), about $17.48 per attempt, against $5,028 for Pro.

The break-even ignores features, and for many teams the deciding feature is the ATS. Starter lists no ATS or calendar integrations; Pro connects to Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby; Enterprise lists 22+ ATS integrations and 7+ calendar integrations. Teams that need results to flow into their applicant tracking system cannot use Starter for that.

What does HackerRank Enterprise add?

Enterprise is "Custom pricing" with "Custom users and attempts" and volume pricing on extra attempts. The feature matrix reserves these for Enterprise:

  • Certified assessments for 80 roles and leaked question protection
  • The full 7,500+ question library
  • API access and the HackerRank MCP
  • SSO and SCIM, advanced roles and permissions, and audit logs
  • A desktop app and concurrent candidate capacity up to 100,000
  • Premium support, a designated account manager and white-glove onboarding

The support FAQ adds that customers on the custom plan get customer success and solution engineering help with test creation, integrations and onboarding. Starter and Pro customers get self-serve onboarding plus HackerRank Academy videos and email or chat support.

What is included on every HackerRank plan?

All three plans list Chakra, Screen and Interview, 55+ programming languages, real-world and custom questions, a full IDE and an "Agentic IDE" where candidates work alongside AI agents, candidate model selection (Claude, Gemini, GPT) and AI guardrail controls. The same integrity set appears on every plan: AI-powered plagiarism detection, session replay, device and object detection and standardized integrity reports. The FAQ says every plan includes at least one question of each of HackerRank's 14 question types.

On security, the matrix lists SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR on all plans. HackerRank also offers a free trial; its trial page says "No credit card required" and asks for a work email, but does not state the trial length or attempt allowance.

Is there an alternative to paying per attempt for technical screening?

Attempt pricing ties screening cost to candidate volume: every completed test, live interview or AI interview draws down the allowance, and overages bill at $20. In Noon evaluation calls, a buying criterion we hear often is a preference for unlimited usage over credit-based models, together with a preference for monthly or quarterly contract terms over annual commitments. HackerRank answers the second with a monthly option, at about 25% more than annual billing.

Noon's AI Interviewer runs first-round screens as a live voice conversation: candidates get an email link, start when they are ready and answer the questions your team defines, then Noon returns a full transcript, a structured analysis and a next-round recommendation. For the technical interviews your engineers run themselves, the AI Notetaker joins the meeting, transcribes it with speaker labels and flags planned questions that were missed. Our technical recruiting guide covers how the screen fits into a full engineering loop.

Noon's pricing model has no attempt meter: one plan with unlimited sourcing, contacts, agents and seats, priced by quote. A hiring surge does not trigger overage bills and adding recruiters does not add seat fees. See the Noon pricing page for how it compares with metered tools, and TestGorilla pricing for a credit-based assessment vendor.

Sources and methodology

All plan prices, allowances, overage fees and FAQ answers were read from HackerRank's rendered pricing page on 29 September 2026 (UTC) through a browser session. The plan cards and the "Compare all features" matrix were recorded in the default annual view, then the billing toggle was switched to monthly and the cards and usage rows recorded again. Each FAQ answer was opened and recorded. The free trial page linked from the pricing page was read the same day. Annual totals, per-attempt figures, savings and the break-even are arithmetic on the published prices. Every quote, URL and fetch timestamp is recorded in the source ledger committed with this article at seo/research/stats/hackerrank-pricing-2026/sources.json.

Search demand was checked with DataForSEO on the same date: about 110 US searches a month each for "hackerrank pricing" and "hackerrank price", and about 30 for "hackerrank cost".

Limitations

  • Enterprise pricing, Enterprise attempt allowances and the volume rate for extra Enterprise attempts are not published, and none are estimated here.
  • The page does not say whether unused annual attempts roll over to the next year, or what cancellation and refund terms apply. Ask before committing.
  • The free trial's length and allowance are not published on the trial page.
  • The per-hire example (10 tests and 3 live interviews per hire) is an illustration of the attempt arithmetic, not a HackerRank benchmark.
  • No third-party or buyer-reported prices are included. Prices are a point-in-time reading; check the vendor page before buying.
