Key takeaway: The applicant tracking system (ATS) market is worth about $2.65 billion to $2.73 billion in 2026, according to Mordor Intelligence and Coherent Market Insights. Fortune Business Insights puts the same market at $18.57 billion, 7.0 times higher. For 2025, three other firms cluster between $3.02 billion and $3.52 billion, and the only vendor-revenue tracker, Apps Run The World, counted $2.5 billion of ATS software revenue in 2024. Most firms forecast 6.5% to 10% annual growth.
"Recruiting software market size" sounds like one number. It is not. Analyst firms define the market differently (ATS only, recruitment software, or all talent acquisition software), value it in different base years, and publish forecasts that disagree by billions of dollars.
The ATS is the core of the category and the best-measured slice of it. Mordor Intelligence projects growth from $2.65 billion in 2026 to $3.76 billion by 2031, a 7.25% CAGR. Apps Run The World, which benchmarks the revenue of more than 1,500 enterprise application vendors, reports that ATS software revenue grew 12.3% to $2.5 billion in 2024.

How big is the applicant tracking system market in 2026?
Two firms value 2026 directly: $2.65 billion (Mordor Intelligence) and $2.73 billion (Coherent Market Insights). A third, Fortune Business Insights, says $18.57 billion. Firms that stop at 2025 land between $3.02 billion and $3.52 billion, with a median of $3.28 billion.

| Apps Run The World | $2.5B (vendor revenue) | 2024 | $3.6B by 2029 | 7.6% | Published Jul 29, 2025 |
| Grand View Research | $2.14B | 2021 | $3.71B by 2030 | 6.2% | Published Jul 2022 |
Seven of the eight estimates sit between $2.1 billion and $3.6 billion for their base year; only Fortune's is outside that band. Read together, a defensible 2026 figure for the global ATS market is roughly $2.7 billion to $3.5 billion, with the low end backed by both 2026 valuations and the revenue tracker.
Why do recruiting software market size estimates disagree?
Scope and method. The figures above all say "applicant tracking system", but the firms do not count the same revenue.
- Fortune Business Insights is the outlier. Its $17.22 billion for 2025 is 5.2 times the median of the other 2025 estimates. Its North America figure alone, $4.75 billion in 2025, is larger than any other firm's global estimate for that year. Its Asia Pacific ($4.81 billion), North America and Europe ($3.78 billion) figures add up to $13.34 billion, or 77.5% of its global total.
- Apps Run The World counts vendor revenue. It benchmarks the revenues and market share of vendors, which is the most direct measure of what employers actually spend on ATS licenses. Its $2.5 billion for 2024 sits at the low end of the cluster.
- Base years differ. Grand View Research's $2.14 billion is a 2021 value from a report first published in July 2022. Comparing it with a 2026 valuation mixes five years of growth.
- Growth assumptions differ. CAGRs run from 6.54% (Market Research Future) to 13.1% (Coherent), with a median of 8.2% across seven current reports. Small differences compound: over a decade they move a forecast by billions.
When you cite a figure, name the publisher, the year it values and whether it is ATS only. "The ATS market was worth $3.28 billion in 2025 (MarketsandMarkets)" is checkable. "The recruiting software market is worth $18 billion" is not, because no report uses that definition.
How big is the broader talent acquisition software market?
Several times larger than the ATS slice, because it adds sourcing, CRM, assessments, interviewing and onboarding tools. Here too the estimates spread widely, from $10.79 billion to $23.45 billion for 2024.
| Publisher | Definition | Value (year) | Forecast | Page date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Credence Research | Talent acquisition software | $10.79B (2024) | $20.42B by 2032, 8.3% CAGR | Base year 2024 |
| Apps Run The World | Talent acquisition applications, six subsegments | $14.5B (2024) | $20.3B by 2029 | Published Jul 29, 2025 |
| SkyQuest Technology | Talent acquisition software | $23.45B (2024) | $53.52B by 2033, 9.6% CAGR | Published May 2025 |
| Prophecy Market Insights | Recruitment software (ATS, CRM, interviewing) | $3.30B (2024) | $7.72B by 2034, 9.8% CAGR | Published Apr 2023 |
On Apps Run The World's numbers, ATS software was about 17.2% of 2024 talent acquisition application revenue ($2.5 billion of $14.5 billion), and talent acquisition was about 24.7% of the $58.7 billion HCM applications market. SkyQuest's talent acquisition estimate is 2.2 times Credence's for the same year.

How fast is the recruiting software market growing?
Most firms forecast high single-digit annual growth for the ATS market: the median CAGR across seven current reports is 8.2%. On Mordor's figures the market adds about $1.11 billion between 2026 and 2031.
Measured revenue grew faster than most forecasts in the last reported year. Apps Run The World recorded 12.3% year-over-year growth in ATS software revenue in 2024, against its own 7.6% forecast CAGR to 2029. Mordor ties part of the expected growth to smaller employers: it reports that solutions held 72.31% of the ATS market in 2025 and that SMEs deliver the highest segment CAGR, 8.21%, as cloud set-ups and pay-as-you-grow pricing close capability gaps.
Market size is total spend; what an individual team pays depends on the vendor's pricing model. Our recruiting software pricing index compares what vendors publish on their own pricing pages.
Who has the largest share of the ATS market?
The market is fragmented. Apps Run The World reports that the top 10 vendors held 51.1% of 2024 ATS revenue, leaving 48.9% to everyone else. iCIMS led with a 10.7% share, followed by Oracle, Workday and Greenhouse Software.
By region, North America is the largest market in every report that breaks it out. Mordor gives it a 39.02% share in 2025; Fortune puts it at 26.60%, behind its own Asia Pacific figure.
For buyers, fragmentation means a long list of credible options. Our ranking of the best applicant tracking systems and the ATS software guide compare the main platforms by team size, and ATS vs recruiting CRM covers when one system is enough.
Where does AI recruiting software fit?
AI recruiting tools mostly sit on top of the ATS rather than replacing it. Noon is one example: it is not an ATS. Its AI Sourcer searches the whole web for candidates beyond LinkedIn, runs email and SMS outreach and books interviews, then syncs with the ATS a team already uses through 20+ ATS integrations. Noon sells a single plan with unlimited sourcing, contacts, agents and seats instead of per-seat pricing; see Noon pricing for how that compares with seat-based tools.

Limitations
- Market sizing firms do not publish their full methods on summary pages, so we cannot say exactly what each one includes. The scope differences described above are what the pages state, not a reconstruction of each model.
- Values are for different base years (2021 to 2026), so the table compares like with like only within a year.
- Apps Run The World measures vendor revenue for large application vendors; small vendors may be under-counted.
- Credence's page shows "Last Updated: Jun 4" without a year, so we list its base year instead of a publication date. Prophecy's and Grand View's base estimates are from reports first published in 2023 and 2022.
