Theresa Zoltan
Northwestern Mutual
“Be open to change. Be willing to take risks, but be methodical about those risks.”
Theresa Zoltan has been named to the Talent 100, Class of 2026, the annual award recognizing up to 100 leaders in each category of talent acquisition. Honorees are nominated by peers or found by committees that look for excellent work wherever it happens, then chosen for the depth of their craft and their impact on hiring. This is Theresa's story.
For Theresa Zoltan, a career in talent acquisition began with a passion for people and a desire to create meaningful connections. Today, as Senior Director, Field Talent Acquistion at Northwestern Mutual, she helps shape recruitment strategies that bring top talent into the organization while navigating an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving hiring landscape.
From Marketing to Talent Acquisition
Zoltan did not begin in the talent space. A graduate of Marquette University, she built her early career in advertising and marketing, leading major brand campaigns for organizations including Southwest Airlines and Kohl's. It was demanding, high-visibility work, and it gave her an instinct for what draws people toward a brand and what keeps them there.
That instinct eventually pointed her in a different direction. While working in client acquisition, she found herself increasingly drawn to understanding people themselves and helping them succeed, a pull strong enough that she moved into talent acquisition roughly seven years ago. Today she leads talent acquisition strategies focused on attracting new advisors and sales professionals, helping grow Northwestern Mutual's field force while ensuring candidates find opportunities where they can thrive.
Navigating a Changing Talent Landscape
If there is a single quality Zoltan believes talent leaders must cultivate as hiring environments continue to evolve, it is adaptability. She has watched the market move too often to think otherwise.
“The external environment is going through transformations all the time,” she explains. “And especially in the talent space, we tend to see the impact of those changes very quickly.”
Recent years have proven the point, bringing significant shifts in candidate behavior, workforce expectations, and economic conditions. Zoltan points to trends such as increased job insecurity, workforce restructuring, and changing candidate sentiment as factors that have required recruiters to rethink how they engage talent. At the same time, emerging technologies are transforming how organizations recruit, evaluate, and support employees. Staying adaptable, in her view, means remaining open to change, embracing innovation, and being willing to take thoughtful risks when pursuing new approaches.
Advice for Talent Leaders Heading Into 2026
Looking ahead, Zoltan encourages talent leaders to build adaptability not only within themselves but across their entire teams. Organizations that foster flexibility, embrace change, and continuously evolve their strategies, she believes, will be best positioned for long-term success.
“Be open to change,” she advises. “Be willing to take risks, but be methodical about those risks.”
As technology continues to reshape the future of work and organizations face new workforce challenges, Zoltan sees that balance of openness and discipline as the foundation for sustainable success. Combining strategic thinking, a people-first mindset, and a willingness to evolve, she continues to shape talent strategies that support both organizational growth and individual success.
The Talent 100 exists to celebrate the people shaping the future of how the world hires, and few embody that better than Theresa. We are honored to welcome Theresa Zoltan to the Talent 100, Class of 2026, and grateful for the experience, perspective, and craft they bring to this community. Congratulations, Theresa. Welcome to the Talent 100.
