Key takeaway: $5 a user a month is Deputy's lowest price. Its pricing page, read on 27 October 2026, lists Lite at $5, Core at $6.50 and Pro at $9 per user per month on annual billing, and $5.50, $7.25 and $10 on monthly billing. Monthly plans carry a $30 minimum per invoice, every login counts as a user, and a 30-person team on Core pays $195 a month billed annually or $217.50 billed monthly.
Deputy is a scheduling, time clock and workforce management app for hourly teams. It replaced its old plans with three new ones on 1 October 2025, the help center says: "From 1 October 2025, Deputy introduced three new pricing plans: Lite Core Pro." Older reviews still quote the retired Starter and Premium plans, so check the date on any Deputy price you find.
Deputy prices per user, like When I Work, while Homebase and 7shifts charge per location and Connecteam charges per hub for the first 30 users. Every price below was read in a rendered browser on 27 October 2026, the arithmetic comes from a script committed with this article, and all prices are in US dollars before tax.
How much does Deputy cost per month?
Deputy sells three plans, each priced per user per month. The pricing page opens on annual billing; the monthly prices appear when you click the Monthly toggle.
| Plan | Annual billing (per user, per month) | Monthly billing (per user, per month) | Built for (Deputy's help center) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | $5 | $5.50 | "Single-location teams that are just getting started with workforce management" |
| Core | $6.50 | $7.25 | "Teams with one or multiple locations looking to streamline operations as they grow" |
| Pro | $9 | $10 | Large multi-location teams: "custom roles and permissions, advanced analytics, premium support and audit logs" |
Lite covers basic scheduling, timesheets and time clocking, labor law compliance, shift swaps, leave and availability, basic reporting, messaging and payroll and HR integrations. Core adds advanced scheduling, auto-scheduling, micro-scheduling, demand forecasting, biometric time clocking, timesheet auto approval and wage and labor budgets. Pro adds custom access levels, advanced timesheets, location hierarchies, pay centers, single sign-on, a sandbox environment, 24/7 live chat and the Analytics+ and Messaging+ add-ons. Deputy AI is listed as "INTRODUCTORY FREE" on all three.
Monthly cost at list price:
| Users | Lite (annual) | Lite (monthly) | Core (annual) | Core (monthly) | Pro (annual) | Pro (monthly) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $25 | $30 (minimum) | $32.50 | $36.25 | $45 | $50 |
| 10 | $50 | $55 | $65 | $72.50 | $90 | $100 |
| 30 | $150 | $165 | $195 | $217.50 | $270 | $300 |
| 50 | $250 | $275 | $325 | $362.50 | $450 | $500 |
| 100 | $500 | $550 | $650 | $725 | $900 | $1,000 |
A year of annual billing costs $60 a user on Lite, $78 on Core and $108 on Pro. For 30 users that is $1,800, $2,340 and $3,240.
How much does Deputy's annual billing save?
The pricing page says "SAVE 10%," and the help center says both annual options "give you access to the same 10% discount." Measured against the published prices, the saving is 10% on Pro ($9 against $10), 10.3% on Core ($6.50 against $7.25) and 9.1% on Lite ($5 against $5.50).
Annual billing comes in two forms, and both lock you in for 12 months:
| Rule | Monthly | Annual Paid Upfront | Annual Paid Monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Payment | Invoice on the last day of each month | One payment on the day you upgrade | 12 monthly installments |
| Minimum | $30 per invoice | 4 pre-paid users (US) | 4 pre-paid users (US) |
| Downgrade or change billing | Any time, "without penalty" | Last 30 days of the term | Last 30 days of the term |
| Cancel early | Not applicable | Allowed, no refund | Allowed, remaining balance due |
On annual plans you can add users but "cannot change the plan you are on or lower the number of employees in your account" mid-term. Annual plans also auto-renew: "Your annual plan will automatically renew on your subscription end date, extending your subscription for another 12 months," with a reminder 30 days before. Users added above your pre-paid number are charged at the end of the month "at the monthly rate of your chosen plan," unless you pre-pay them so "you only pay the pro-rata annual rate for the rest of your contract."
Who counts as a user on Deputy?
Everyone with an account. The FAQ says: "All users/administrators/supervisors are considered users and will be counted in your total user number." Managers who build the schedule are billed like the staff who work it.
Partial months are billed in full. "When you add a new user into Deputy for the first time, you will be charged at the full monthly per user price," and the same applies when you archive or unarchive someone mid-month. For seasonal teams, Deputy sells a separate Flexi Weekly plan "only paying the full rate for active team members each week," but Deputy does not publish its price.
The $30 minimum matters for very small teams. It took effect on September 1, 2025 for monthly Lite, Core and Pro plans, so on monthly billing it covers up to five users on Lite, four on Core and three on Pro. A three-person café on monthly Lite pays $30, not $16.50.
What do Deputy's add-ons cost?
Four add-ons are priced on the pricing page or in the help center. Pro includes Analytics+ and Messaging+.
| Add-on | Monthly billing (per user, per month) | Annual billing (per user, per month) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deputy HR | $2.00 | $1.80 | Hiring (applicant tracking), documents, onboarding, engagement; 30-day free trial |
| Analytics+ | $1.50 | $1.35 | Included in Pro |
| Messaging+ | $1.95 | $1.75 | Included in Pro |
| Deputy Payroll enabled by Paycor | $8 + $49 base fee a month | Annual Core and Pro only | US only; "fee varies by business size" |
Two cost lessons fall out of this table:
- Pro beats Core plus both add-ons. Core with Analytics+ and Messaging+ costs $10.70 a user on monthly billing and $9.60 on annual, against $10 and $9 for Pro, which also includes SSO and the sandbox environment.
- The HR add-on is the hiring module. Deputy describes its Hire feature as an "applicant tracking system" for managing job applicants. A 30-person team on annual Core plus HR pays $249 a month, or $2,988 a year. Adding Payroll at list price ($49 plus $8 a user) brings the same team to $538 a month.
Other charges: SMS sent from Deputy costs 1 cent per 160 characters in the US, and Deputy warns that "many SMS messages sent via Deputy exceed 160 characters." Paid onboarding is "available on annual plans." Deputy's paid service add-ons "are not available on self-serve plans." Charities can "ask us about special pricing options." At the check date a site banner read "Switch & Get 6 Months Free," for businesses that add workforce management and payroll before 30 November.
Is Deputy free?
No. There is no free plan. Deputy offers a free trial ("Up to 31 days, no credit card required" on its Flexi page) and the Lite and Core cards carry a "Start free trial" button, while Pro's says "Contact us." Deputy HR, Analytics+ and Messaging+ each have their own 30-day trial. If you need a free tier, Homebase, Connecteam and 7shifts each publish one for small teams.
How does Deputy compare to When I Work, Homebase, Connecteam and 7shifts?
The five tools meter price differently. Prices below are monthly-billing list prices read on each vendor's own pricing page on 27 October 2026.
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan (monthly billing) | Pricing unit | Free option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deputy | $5.50 a user a month (Lite) | Per user, $30 minimum per invoice | Free trial |
| When I Work | $2.50 a user a month | Per user | 14-day trial |
| Homebase | $30 a location a month (Essentials) | Per location, unlimited employees | 1 location, up to 10 employees |
| Connecteam | $35 a month (Operations Basic) | First 30 users, then $1 a user | Up to 10 users |
| 7shifts | $44.99 a location a month (Essentials) | Per location, up to 30 employees | 1 location, up to 15 employees |
Monthly list cost for one location on each vendor's cheapest paid plan that fits the team:
| Users | Deputy Lite | When I Work | Homebase Essentials | Connecteam Ops Basic | 7shifts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $55 | $25 | $30 | $35 | $44.99 (Essentials) |
| 30 | $165 | $75 | $30 | $35 | $44.99 (Essentials) |
| 100 | $550 | $250 | $30 | $105 | $149.99 (Premium) |
On sticker price, Deputy is the most expensive of the five for a single site. On monthly billing, Lite costs more than Homebase Essentials from six users and more than 7shifts Essentials from nine. What the premium buys is depth: auto-scheduling, demand forecasting, labor budgets and compliance tools on Core, and SSO, audit logs and location hierarchies on Pro. The plans are not identical bundles, so compare features as well as price. Our time tracking software comparison covers the category in more depth.
How does Noon fit next to Deputy?
Deputy runs the team you already have: schedules, clock-ins, timesheets and, with its HR add-on, an applicant tracker for the people who apply. It does not go out and find candidates who never applied. When a shift team needs more people than inbound applicants supply, that is a sourcing job, and it matters most in high-volume recruiting and retail hiring.
Noon is an AI sourcer built for that side. It searches the whole web for candidates, not just LinkedIn, evaluates them against your role's criteria, finds contact details, runs personalized email and SMS outreach and books interviews, with 20+ ATS integrations. Noon sells one plan with unlimited sourcing, unlimited email enrichment, unlimited contacts, unlimited agents and unlimited seats, so cost does not climb with headcount the way per-user tools do. Noon does not publish a dollar price; pricing is quote-based. For the rest of the stack, see our guide to recruiting software for small businesses and the recruiting software pricing index.

Limitations
- These are point-in-time US list prices on 27 October 2026, before tax. Deputy also bills in Australian dollars and British pounds at different rates.
- Deputy Payroll's fee "varies by business size," so the $49 base plus $8 a user is the published starting point, not a quote.
- Deputy publishes no prices for Flexi Weekly, service add-ons, charity pricing or Pro contracts negotiated through sales.
- The comparison uses each vendor's cheapest plan that fits the team size on monthly billing. The plans include different features, and annual billing lowers every vendor's price.
- Existing Deputy customers on retired plans move to Lite, Core and Pro "over time," so a current invoice may not match these prices.
FAQ
Does Deputy charge per employee?
Yes. All three plans are priced per user per month, and admins, managers and supervisors count as users. Monthly plans carry a $30 minimum per invoice.
How much is Deputy for 20 employees?
At list price, $100 a month on Lite, $130 on Core or $180 on Pro with annual billing, or $110, $145 and $200 on monthly billing, as long as 20 people are all the logins you need.
Does Deputy have a free plan?
No. It offers a free trial, and its add-ons have 30-day trials, but every ongoing plan is paid, starting at $5 per user per month billed annually.
Can I cancel Deputy at any time?
Annual plans can be cancelled before the 12 months end, but Annual Paid Upfront plans get no refund and Annual Paid Monthly plans owe the remaining balance of the term. Monthly plans have no 12-month commitment and can change plan at any time without penalty.
Does Deputy include an applicant tracking system?
Only through the Deputy HR add-on, at $2 a user a month on monthly billing or $1.80 on annual billing. Its Hire feature tracks job applicants; it does not source candidates who have not applied.
