I look at that recruiter role now and think, 'Imagine the impact I could have made in that seat with the power of AI behind me.'

Stefanie Spackman has been named to the Talent 100, Class of 2026, the annual award recognizing up to 100 leaders in each category of talent acquisition. Honorees are nominated by peers or found by committees that look for excellent work wherever it happens, then chosen for the depth of their craft and their impact on hiring. This is Stefanie's story.

For Stefanie Spackman, recruiting was never part of the original plan. She came to the profession with a degree in social work and a passion for helping people, and her career began in higher education within career services, where she helped students launch their careers while partnering with employers to create opportunities. That work introduced her to recruiting from a different perspective, one rooted less in requisitions than in the human ambitions behind them.

From there she moved into agency recruiting, where she learned the fundamentals of talent acquisition and developed the resilience the profession demands. Nearly two decades in technology recruiting followed, and then a move into a technology-adjacent industry, where she arrived with years of recruiting leadership and strategic talent expertise behind her.

Looking back, she describes a journey she simply "fell into", a path that ultimately became a rewarding lifelong career.

Leading Recruiting Through AI

Stefanie believes artificial intelligence is transforming talent acquisition by allowing recruiters to focus on the work that matters most. As she sees it, AI is removing much of the administrative burden that has traditionally occupied recruiting teams, creating more space for strategic partnership, relationship building, and business impact.

Having spent years as an individual recruiter before moving into executive leadership, she often reflects on how much more she could have accomplished with today's capabilities. "I look at that recruiter role now and think, 'Imagine the impact I could have made in that seat with the power of AI behind me.'"

Even as the technology advances rapidly, she believes today's recruiting landscape remains fundamentally human-led, with AI serving as a powerful enabler rather than a replacement. That balance, she expects, will keep evolving as the technology matures.

Advice for Talent Leaders

Above all else, Stefanie believes recruiting is a business centered around people. One lesson has stayed with her throughout her career: recruiting influences the areas of life people care about most, their family, their time, and their financial well-being. For that reason, she believes talent leaders should never lose sight of the human impact behind every hiring decision.

At the same time, she encourages recruiting professionals to recognize the tremendous influence talent has on organizational success. Everything begins with the people an organization hires, which makes talent acquisition one of the most strategically important functions within any business.

She is equally emphatic about the role of data. Combining people-centered leadership with strong data-driven decision-making, she believes, is what allows recruiting teams to operate strategically rather than reactively. As AI continues making data more accessible and actionable, she sees enormous opportunity for those teams to improve hiring, build stronger organizations, and create better experiences for candidates.

By combining empathy, strategic thinking, innovation, and a commitment to developing people, Stefanie Spackman represents the kind of talent leader helping shape the future of recruiting with both heart and purpose.

The Talent 100 exists to celebrate the people shaping the future of how the world hires, and few embody that better than Stefanie. We are honored to welcome Stefanie Spackman to the Talent 100, Class of 2026, and grateful for the experience, perspective, and craft they bring to this community. Congratulations, Stefanie. Welcome to the Talent 100.
