“Finding the right people up front contributes to business performance and culture.”
Jill Roe has been named to the Talent 100, Class of 2026, the annual award recognizing the 100 most exceptional leaders and practitioners in talent acquisition. Honorees are selected by the Talent 100 committee from thousands of nominations and candidates across the industry, chosen for the impact of their work, the depth of their craft, and their influence on the future of recruiting. This is Jill's story.
Jill Roe didn't start in recruiting, she came to talent acquisition through HR, driven by a conviction that bringing in the right people from the start makes everything else easier.
She saw the connection early. Hire well at the gate, and the entire employee lifecycle becomes smoother. "Finding the right people up front contributed to the business performance, contributed to the culture," she explains. When people arrive with the right mindset and the right skills from day one, the HR work on the back end simply flows.
That insight shaped everything that followed. Roe picked up recruiting, learned it on the job, and built a career around the power of great hiring, a career that has taken her to the role of Chief People Officer at goop.
A First Career in Advertising
Long before HR and recruiting, Roe had an entire first career. She worked in account management at advertising agencies, developing a deep understanding of consumer brands and a lasting love for brand-building and the dynamics of client relationships.
It was formative work that would later inform her approach to people and culture, even if she didn't know it at the time.
Learning From Great Leaders
Two leaders have profoundly shaped Roe's philosophy and her practice. The first was Lisa Russell, chief people officer at FAIR, who brought a coaching mindset to the role. Russell taught her how to bring out the best in talent, how to recognize individual work styles, and how to facilitate hard conversations. She also showed Roe something less obvious: the critical importance of a high-performing executive leadership team.
"How executive leadership team and that dynamic and how they operate together is a really important part of how the organization operates overall," Roe says. It was a revelation, the understanding that alignment at the top cascades through an entire organization.
After nearly five years with Russell, Roe joined goop and began working with Genava Parker, the company's chief people officer and general counsel. Parker brought an entirely different skill set, coming from a law background as an attorney by trade, and with it came tremendous discipline and rigor. The expectations for quality of work product from the team are exceptionally high.
"I feel very fortunate that I've had those two very different perspectives," Roe reflects. Both leaders, each in their own way, elevated what she brings to the world.
AI and the Shifting Landscape
Roe sees AI as a transformative force in recruiting, even as employers are still learning how to harness it. At goop, some job postings attract over a thousand applicants. Someone has to go through all those resumes, and even after filtering, the team might end up with just five qualified candidates. AI can dramatically change that equation, freeing recruiters to spend their time on the people who are genuinely qualified rather than on manual screening. "Recruiting can be a very, very manual process and AI is perfectly suited to make that a more efficient automated process," she notes.
The impact extends to the other side of the table as well. Job seekers are using AI to write resumes, prepare for interviews, and sharpen their narratives, and Roe expects an overall elevation in how candidates present themselves. "Resumes are going to look crisper and stronger. People's narratives are going to be crisper and stronger if they're using those resources properly," she says. The result will be candidates putting their best foot forward, armed with resources that were never before so readily available.
The Talent 100 exists to celebrate the people shaping the future of how the world hires, and few embody that better than Jill. We are honored to welcome Jill Roe to the Talent 100, Class of 2026, and grateful for the experience, perspective, and craft they bring to this community. Congratulations, Jill. Welcome to the Talent 100.
