iOS Instructor and Developer
The Flatiron School
Jan 2016 - Dec 2016
• 1 yrThis was an incredibly rewarding experience. I worked on a team to help plan the future of the school's immersive programs, wrote curriculum to teach iOS development from loops through subclassing OperationQueue, managed multiple teams through the development of apps released to the App Store, and constantly pushed the bounds of my own skills and knowledge to help students understand Swift.
The year I spent at Flatiron School allowed me the opportunity to learn for the sake of learning and share my excitement and experience with others. More important than any of the numerous specific technologies I became familiar with, however, is that I learned how to dive into a murky problem and teach myself whatever's necessary to make a working solution. Yes, I worked with CoreData and URLSession, explored Vapor and Realm, taught generics, and introduced advanced architectures such as MVVM and VIPER. But now I know that when I'm thrown something I've never seen before, it's just another chance to learn something new.

Co-Founder; Management and Marketing Educator
BioTrep
Mar 2014 - Dec 2015
• 1 yr 10 mosBioTrep is an amazing program I've had the great fortune to co-found and develop. My partner and I turned what was a nascent idea to start a basic start-up incubator into what has become an organization to grow and manage a portfolio of entrepreneurial biotechnology projects. In our first year we led more than 40 students on 11 teams to win $38,500 in entrepreneurship competition prizes.
And yet the money has been secondary for me. More rewarding is the opportunity to put to work the education I received in my Master's program at U.Va. One of the most exciting aspects of building this company has been crafting its strategy and structure from scratch. The long nights working on Excel spreadsheets to map dynamic cash and equity distribution bring a real sense of satisfaction when I get to see my efforts in action.
It's been a very educational experience to manage not only our project teams, but our team of administrative interns. In order to structure the development of BioTrep, and to facilitate the development of our projects, I've created a simple-to-use task-tracking system that also serves as an agenda template for our weekly meetings. This has reduced what were once 3-hour meetings by a third and allows members to be aware of what work needs to get done and who needs help.
In addition to the administrative tasks I perform I lead workshops on market analysis and strategy, project management, and presentation skills.

Producer; Designer
New Immunity
Jun 2012 - Dec 2015
• 3 yrs 7 mosMusic production is more than just writing and arranging songs. It is the fulfillment of any tasks that are necessary for the success of a song or artist. Though my role as a producer does entail songwriting and arrangement, I also create direction for the band and identify strategies by which to achieve our goals. This has included the development of our image and brand, the creation of a soundstyle we could call our niche, and the analysis of our local music landscape which helped to identify our primary target audience.
My work is not always based in the intangible, however. When we decided as a band to "get serious" and formalize our group I researched media and contract law to create an internal contract based on our unique needs. This contract has since been vetted and approved by legal and music industry professionals. I also leveraged my experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create New Immunity's logo and artwork, which we use to build brand recognition and display our particular style. In addition, I've maintained New Immunity's website from the first iteration for which I wrote the HTML and CSS to its latest version hosted on Squarespace.
The best aspect of being a part of New Immunity is that I get to work and perform with incredibly talented individuals whom I consider close friends. They inspire me, and together we create music that truly makes me proud.
Oct 2014 - Oct 2015
• 1 yr 1 moOn a daily basis I worked with my team to develop statistical marketing mix models to optimize the marketing strategies of Fortune 500 companies. At any given time I balanced work for multiple projects, and often acted as a guide for newer employees with whom I shared my experience. In order to manage my responsibilities I gathered and organized relevant information to scope the projects on which I worked, divided major elements into smaller tasks, prioritized these tasks into a kanban tracker of my design, and planed my process accordingly.
A large part of my work involved problem solving, for both clients and internal decisions. This was one of the most interesting and appealing aspects of my work as it provided me with challenges to overcome and opportunities to learn. One of the most valuable skills I developed in my role at Analytic Partners was the confidence and ability to engage in and maintain communication with coworkers and external client contacts. I made a point of forming bonds with our client teams to promote a positive working environment, and so our presentations would be more to a group of friends than an audience of strangers.
In addition to my formal role I enjoyed taking on opportunities to help with IT issues in our satellite office. It not only helped our office IT systems run more smoothly, but provided a nice opportunity for me to shift gears and work on problems out of the ordinary.

Producer; Photographer; Designer
iamramen industries
Aug 2008 - Jun 2012
• 3 yrs 11 mosIn college I started my first business to provide graphic design, photography, and audio production services. The work started as a few favors for friends, but grew into a more cohesive entity as prospective clients I'd never met began to approach me.
A project would start with a needs assessment, through which I got to know my clients and their situations to better tailor the end results. For instance, my work for an R&B singer differed greatly from my work for an acoustic singer-songwriter, even though they each came to me for electronic press kit media. My style and aesthetic developed during the four years I worked as iamramen industries. Everything I created was designed to solve the needs of a client in the most emphatic way possible, be it a bare and gritty website for a multi-medium creatrix or crisp and highly engineered audio tracks for a fashion show.
I learned how important it is to take into account the audience of a product, and developed my ability to consider the expectations and preferences of those who will eventually see or hear what I create.
