Software Engineer, Digital Technology Leadership Program Intern
May 2017 - Aug 2017
4 mos
Looking for experience alongside a customer facing scrum team to contract my previous internship experiences, this summer I worked alongside the Yard Planner application team for GE Transportation. With the goals of learning more about the agile methodology; experience the daily development lifestyle; and gain experience integrating into an existing code base, I: - Participated in the four rituals of Agile development alongside my team. - Solved a build defect occurring in specific environments, gaining exposure to the build process. - Automating the testing for a major area of the user interface using Selenium, learning about the frontend implementation and Angular 1.0. - Completed user stories and defects across the stack, interpreting existing code and integrating new features as needed. In addition to this I worked on a team of interns looking to proof of concept a hardware/software solution for the locomotive using Raspberry Pis and display technologies. My role served as a team lead and supporting developer to help create the various parts of our stack and ultimately bring them together. The result was a working demo that continues to be explored by various members of the business. We delivered our hardware solution, documentation, and code, as well, to help aid any future contributors.
Brilliant Factory Engineering IT, Digital Technology Leadership Program Intern
May 2016 - Sep 2016
5 mos
The Digital Technology Leadership Program Intern aims to look for members that exercise leadership by doing — gaining real-world experience by working on important and challenging projects alongside some of the brightest minds in the world. For my internship, I worked alongside member of the Grove City, PA Brilliant Factory team working as a developer. My task was to implement a visualization of the machines on the factory floor, that could be brought to other factories with ease. To accomplish this I: - Designed visualizations for desktop and mobile, written in Thingworx, Predix, and pure web. - Created procedures for obtaining information from MSSQL Databases. - Made a Springboot and NodeJS REST API for front end interaction to the databases. - Created tool sets in GulpJS and GruntJS, modified existing Maven and Gradle builds. - Documented solutions to common problems, as well as "How-Tos" for future employees. - Gathered and communicated business requirements to project stakeholders. - Worked with members across teams to troubleshoot and solve complex problems. In addition to this I worked on a team of interns looking to proof of concept new technologies on the factory floor using Raspberry Pis, Python, and Java. My role varied between developer and solution architect as the project was seen through. In the end, my team had a working demo that could potentially be brought to the factory floor for testing with very few tweaks. We delivered a full set of documentation for usage and code, as well, to help along any future continuations of the project. (The Digital Technology Leadership Program was formerly known as the Information Technology Leadership Program).
