Founder
FreshCar (Previously Carma Car)
Jun 2017 - Nov 2020
• 3 yrs 6 mosFreshCar is a Techstars-backed startup that offers enterprise software for managing vehicle subscriptions. The FreshCar platform offers a robust subscription management software powered by vehicle telematics, and I had full technical ownership for bringing the product from concept to a successful launch.
My responsibilities included being the primary technical owner and contributor of the platform, working with designers and developers to execute our product roadmap, and working with enterprise customers to pitch and sell our platform on deals that typically surpass six figures.
As a pioneer in alternative vehicle ownership models, FreshCar has worked with startups, dealerships, OEMs, and auto finance organizations to launch, operate and analyze vehicle subscription programs at scale. I enjoyed the mix of hands-on technical challenges with management and business development responsibilities. Our technology stack included Python, Django, DRF, PostgreSQL, Redis, RQ, Gunicorn, gevent, WebSocket, Firebase, Stripe Connect, AWS and native mobile applications.

• 1 yr 4 mosI took a break from US Politics to travel to Africa and work on projects from my graduate school research on software for emerging markets. I spent most of this time on EthioTrack, which pioneered GPS fleet telematics solutions in Ethiopia, the second largest country in Africa. I led the development for launching the initial platform and trained technical staff in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Today, EthioTrack serves large local and international organizations in Ethiopia with state-of-the-art fleet telematics solutions.

Chief Technology Officer
Republican National Committee
Dec 2013 - Nov 2015
• 2 yrsI was recruited to help the US Republican Party build its data and engineering operation from the ground up in the wake of President Obama's 2012 victory. First as a chief data officer, and later as CTO, my focus at the GOP was building a first class election data platform, and making this platform readily accessible for campaigns throughout the country via APIs and ready-made campaign tools. I worked under strict deadlines to deliver on some key initiatives for the GOP.
I led the design of the GOP Voter API covering 200M+ voter profiles that was used to facilitate the data exchange agreement between the RNC and 12 of the 16 republican primary presidential campaigns in 2016. I also built a data engineering division for the GOP, which worked on automating electoral data collection, feature extraction and engineering, running large scale polls for labeling data, and training, evaluating and tuning voter targeting models. During my tenure, I grew the technology team to 50+, recruiting engineers and data scientists in Washington DC and staffing the party’s first office in Silicon Valley.
My responsibility also included overseeing other technical efforts of the party, notably rebuilding GOP.com, the flagship website for the Republican Party. My work with the GOP has been widely covered in the press, from Weekend Interview on the Wall Street Journal, to getting named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list and TIME Magazine's New Faces of Black Leadership list. I decided to resign from the RNC during the 2016 primary.
